*Masselink Family Scholarship (Kuyper College)
*William J. & Glenda Masselink Scholarship (Calvin College)
The Masselink Family Scholarship serves as a living memorial to all our loved ones who have departed to be with the Lord.
The William and Glenda Masselink Scholarship is for a Calvin College student planning to follow a career in health professions or in physics. (William and Glenda Masselink have also supported the Masselink Family Scholarship at Kuyper College, which was originally established in memory of William's father, the Reverend Doctor William Masselink).
The Masselink Family Scholarship is an endowed scholarship awarded by the Kuyper College Financial Aid Department, and if necessary, their scholarship committee, based on the criteria established with the scholarship. It has helped reduce the cost of education for many students.
The College continues to receive additional donations to the Masselink Family Scholarship from various family members.

History of the Masselink Family Scholarship
1973 The initial money for this scholarship was donated in remembrance of the 1973 passing of our 'Uncle Bill' (Rev. Dr. William Masselink) who was on the faculty of the Reformed Bible Institute (RBI) from 1942 to 1963. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students with an interest in serving in the mission field, which was dear to Uncle Bill's heart.
1984 After prayerful requests for guidance and in conjunction with the printing of 'The Masselink Family Tree', Edward H. Masselink, Sr. contacted Dr. Dick Van Halsma, President of the Reformed Bible College (now Kuyper College), for information on how to establish a family scholarship. On 27 Mar 1984, the fund stood at $310 with the requirement that the balance reach $1,000 before the fund could be formally recognized by the College.
1985 The fund reached a balance of $1,010 on 4 Apr 1985 and the Masselink Family Scholarship was formally recognized by the College's Scholarship Committee.
1986 The fund reached a balance of $26,340 as a result of a $25,000 donation from the National Christian Association (NCA) in July 1986. The NCA was founded in 1868 with the purpose of organizing Christian opposition to secret societies, i.e., oath-bound orders such as the Freemasons, Knights Templar, Odd-fellows, and Knights of Pythias. Dr. William Masselink and his wife Mary served as the President of the NCA from 1943 until his death in 1973. Dr. Edward J. Masselink and his wife Clazina also served as the President of the NCA (dates unknown). Dr. Edward J. Masselink was present in 1979 when the doors of the NCA headquarters (The Carpenter Building, 850 W. Madison, Grand Rapids, Michigan) were "closed forever".
1987 Based on the guidance provided by Dr. Edward J. Masselink and his wife Clazina, the purpose of the Masselink Family Scholarship was updated: "To support students preparing for the mission field. Eligible students must declare a major in intercultural studies and demonstrate financial need; Students from the Christian Reformed Church or related churches are preferred, such as the Reformed Church of America, Presbyterian Church in America, and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church."
1987 Jul 24 The first Masselink Family Scholarship was awarded to David Gifford for the 1987-1988 school year. He graduated Kuyper College with a Bachelor's of Religious Education, Missions/Missionary Studies and Missiology (1985 – 1990) and from Calvin Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, Theology and Religious Vocations (2000–2004). Last reported, he was a Christian Reformed minister teaching New Testament and Philosophy at the Reformed Theological Seminary of Mexico. He also assists the pastor of the Jesus the Savior Church, produces web materials in Spanish for their website, and organizes training events for the Timothy Institute.
The College continues to receive additional donations to the Masselink Family Scholarship from various family members.

History of the Reformed Bible Institute, Reformed Bible College, Kuyper College:
Kuyper College was founded in 1939 as Reformed Bible Institute (RBI). RBI provided a three year curriculum that offered a practical, focused and expedient track into foreign and domestic missions.
In 1970, after an almost five year redesign of the curriculum and programs, the Department of Education of the State of Michigan gave the School the right to confer a four-year degree. As a result, RBI changed its name to RBC (Reformed Bible College).
On April 21, 2006, RBC once again changed its name, this time to Kuyper College after Abraham Kuyper (1837 - 1920). Kuyper was Prime Minister of The Netherlands from 1901 - 1905 and a theologian. He also played an important role in founding of the Vrije Universiteit. ('Uncle Bill' received his second doctorate (Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) as a student from 1937-1938 at the Vrije Universiteit (Free University) in Amsterdam, NL. His dissertation was published in 1938 as the book: "J. Gresham Machen, His Life and Defence of the Bible"). He could also speak and preach in English, Dutch and German.)
Kuyper College continues to build on the strong foundation established first as RBI, and later as RBC. Kuyper College has a total enrollment of over 300 students and offers a wide variety of degree programs and 16 study abroad opportunities. Its mission is as it was in 1939: To place people in ministry and professional areas of leadership around the world to meet the spiritual and social challenges that exist today.
